Kathy Rugh Bio
Ever since she was a little girl growing up in Odessa, Texas, Kathy has had a passion for hair artistry. Her mother was a hairstylist, and her grandmother was a barber, which afforded Kathy the opportunity to grow up watching them work their magic. This homegrown inspiration and experience prompted her to earn her license as a cosmetologist upon graduation from Ross Sterling High School.
Kathy spent 13 years working as a hairstylist in the Houston area before going back to school. In 1994, she completed the Associates of Applied Science Degree in Cosmetology Instruction, and passed the Texas Board Exam for Cosmetology Instruction. She continued developing her craft, and dedicated time and effort into networking. This led to her being able to successfully transition into production hair and makeup in which she’s been working now for over 20 years.
Kathy has a level of professionalism and work ethic that is unparalleled and allows her to handle any job thrown at her with ease. She has worked her magic on everyone from dignitaries to rappers, and news anchors to comedians. Regardless of who her clients are, they end up falling in love with her and her artistry. Kathy has even handled the craziest Super Bowl sports jobs with the utmost of grace and attention to detail.
The standard Kathy sets for her artistry is truly inspirational. She shows up early and stays late to ensure her work is done to perfection. She takes care of her talent and models as well as everyone on the film crew, leaving no one unattended. Kathy’s work ethic is solid and oldschool. This allows her to treat every job, no matter how big or small, with the same care and attention to detail.
Due to her work ethic, aesthetic vision, and professionalism, Kathy has gone on to work for a list of clients that is truly impressive. She has been honored with the opportunity to work with royalty such as Queen Noor of Jordan for her book launch, as well as with Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Kathy has also been chosen to work with high ranking political figures such as President George Bush and Barbara Bush. The Bush family was so pleased with her work that they invited her and her husband to a private screening of the documentary, “41”, at his library.
Kathy has also had the opportunity to work with President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Charlie Gibson of GMA at Crawford Ranch. Kathy’s level of professionalism, her innate talent, and keen eye have made her an obvious choice for such an impressive group of clients. Her confidence in her craft allows her to work without fear, and she takes on any challenge given to her with aplomb. Whether it is constructing ice crystals and a frozen face, building a beard on a model, creating special effects, or elaborate wigs, Kathy can do it all. As a result, she is always at the top of the list for many of our clients making her one of VCI’s most requested and respected artists.
